Journaling doesn’t have to feel like a therapy session where you stare at the page and question all your life choices. Sometimes the most interesting thing, is the most simple thing.

Since I doubt that there’s any human being that would be interested in reading my journals, I always imagine that in the future, the aliens will find my journals in the rubble and learn a little something about humanity (or at least this particular human).

I’m a 90’s kid and during those days, there was a thing called a slambook where sometimes multiple people can write their answers to certain questions and you can see friends’ answers in the same page.

Here are 20 lighthearted prompts to try. Plus some of my own answers.

  1. The food item I am obsessed with right now is _.

Nonna Pia’s balsamic glaze (I swear I did not answer this for the amazon affiliate link but if you decide to try it and buy from my link, it would help). I discovered the magical combination of berries and balsalmic glaze. If you haven’t tried it, you can start with strawberry ice cream and a dollop of this magical liquid.

2. My comfort movie/show is _.

Ocean’s Eleven. There’s something that feels good about outsmarting someone else (especially if they’re an ass).

Also my “spirit animal” is Rusy Ryan (Brad Pitt) since he seems to be always snacking.

3. My dream “side character role” in a movie would be_.

Quirky bookstore owner who always has unsolicited advice. Not the creepy killer type like Joe Goldberg.

4. Work in silence or with background music?

If I’m writing, then work in silence. My brain can only handle one word-related input/output. But if I’m drawing or doing some mundane chore, then background music.

5. If my brain had tabs like Chrome, the open tabs would be_.

Unreadable because there’s so many open, you can’t even see the icons anymore.

6. Would you rather fight a one horse-sized duck, or 100 duck-sized horses?

Why am I asking questions I can’t even answer? Maybe the one horse sized duck because it feels like an epic battle. Plus I don’t have the awareness to handle 100 duck sized horses. Although, the Canadian geese are really scary and they’re normal sized geese.

This was my journal in 2020. I love how magical and mysterious it looks. Makes it feel like I’m writing about my fairytale life.

7. Which superpower would you want?

Teleportation. Growing up, it used to be flying but now that I’m older, time gets more precious.

8. Which animal would you least want to see sprinting at you?

Geese. If flying, butterflies (sorry, scared of them), and maybe giant spiders.

9. If you could swap lives with a fictional character for one day, who would it be?

Lizzie McGuire. Just to experience having my own animated sidekick narrating my chaos.

10. Pancakes or waffles?

Waffles. I like the texture. Pancakes if i’m impatient.

11. Always speak in rhyme or always speak in riddles?

Riddles sound fun but I don’t think I’ll get anywhere in a conversation. Also I can rap when I always rhyme.

12. What’s your most unnecessary iconic talent?

Asking Buzzfeed questions.

13. What app on your phone do you open the most without realizing?

Instagram 🤦🏻‍♀️

14. What’s your go-to karaoke song?

Don’t Stop Me Now- Queen

15. What chore do you avoid the longest? (And what does it say about you?)

Taking out the trash. I hold on to my garbage?

16. What is the color/theme of your bedspread right now? Is it your ideal design or you’re just too lazy to buy new ones?

Whites and grays- it’s okay. I would love to have throw pillows but I’m too lazy to set up and decorate the bed all the time.

I am obsessed with leather journals. This one from amazon is pretty affordable and the paper holds watercolor!

17. Dancing in public or singing in public?

Singing, if everyone’s already drunk.

18. What is one small thing that annoys you?

Cakes that are in jars. Cakes should just stay on a plate (in my opinion). I find that cakes in jars have the wrong ratio of icing/cream/mousse to cake. And arguably, normal cakes just look so much cuter, unless the jar is cute and you can take it home then I might change my mind.

19. Which random object in your home can absolutely defeat you in a battle?

My fitted sheet! Hands down.

20. Pizza crust: thin and crispy or thick and fluffy?

I kinda like the in-between. Crispy on the outside, fluffy in the inside. Not too thick that it’s gonna absorb all my saliva and not too thin that you’re eating a pita.
